Figure Skating Policies and Procedures Session Information Drop-in
Information

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL FREESTYLE SESSIONS ARE DETERMINED BY U.S. FIGURE SKATING STANDARD FREESKATE TEST PASSED (UNLESS STATED BELOW)

OPEN FS: (Open Freeskate) Open to all skaters passed Basic 6 and above. Skaters lower than Basic 6, must be accompanied by a coach for at least a portion of the freestyle session.

JUV-SR FS: (Juvenile-Senior Freeskate) Skaters who have passed Juvenile Freeskate and above, Juvenile Pair test or higher. Adult skaters who have passed the Adult Silver Freeskate test or higher. Dancers who have passed all the Pre-Bronze dances and above.
Teams:Qualifications for freestyle sessions are based on pair or free dance level passed by at least one member of the team.
Ice Den Directors reserve the right to place skaters in appropriate levels regardless of their test record.

FREESKATE 1-JUV FS: (FREESKATE 1-JUV FS) Skaters must have passed Pre-Freeskate(Basic 7/8) and may have passed Juvenile Freeskate test. Skaters at levels lower than Basic 6, must be accompanied by a coach for at least a portion of the session.

SUMMER SPECIALTY 2: (Summer Specialty 2 ) For skaters passed Preliminary Moves Test through Senior Freeskate
Power and Edge Class Combined
In this class we will utilize drills & technical exercises to improve power & speed. These drills will help skaters develop knee & ankle rhythm, proper weight transfer and agility to achieve greater power on the ice.
Edge Class
Involves music and edge work, helping skaters understand the importance of controlled, sustained edges. Developing an understanding of the importance of patterns using small group tracking.The class embraces all the different edges, turns and steps fundamental for skating skills/transitions.

OPEN SPEED SKATING SESSIO: (OPEN SPEED SKATING SESSION) GEAR Required:
Ice speed skates, helmet (hockey, bike, inline and skateboarding acceptable), gloves and skating gear/apparel that has long sleeves and long pants so that there is no exposed skin.
Recommended: Neck guard, eye protection , knee, shin and elbow pads.
1. Skating direction is counter-clockwise.
2. Skaters should skate under control at all times. Keep a safe speed taking into consideration ice conditions, padding and crowd.
3. Faster skaters shall overtake slower skaters on the OUTSIDE.
4. Slower skaters, skaters resting shall skate on the INSIDE of the track.
5. Skaters shall only rest in the middle of the center ice face-off circle. No resting permitted on outside boards.
6. Skaters shall minimize crossing the track to enter and exit the ice surface and will wait until track is safe.
7. Skaters must follow all directions by rink staff, including but not limited to, stopping for instruction, races, rest breaks or to allow a fellow skater to recover from a fall.
8. Pads may or may not be provided in specific areas of the track. Skaters shall adjust their speed accordingly to remain safe for conditions.
9. All ice surface access doors must remain closed at all times during the session.

Speed Skating is intended as a track sport and not a physical contact sport. Any intentionally aggressive behavior on the ice may result in lost ice privileges without refund. The Ice Den Scottsdale and Ice Den Chandler reserves the right to revoke participation and registration privileges for any future Ice Den programs as the result of unacceptable conduct.

INTERMEDIATE-SENIOR FS: ( Intermediate-Senior Freeskate) Skaters who have passed the Intermediate Freeskate test and above, Intermediate Pair test and above, Dance teams passed Intermediate Free dance test or higher. Adult skaters who have passed the Adult Gold Freeskate test or higher. Dancers who have passed all the Pre-Silver dances and above.

Classes held in the Ice Den's Ballet Room- Upstairs in Coyotes Rink-south end. Skaters must have ballet slippers. Mandatory ballet or skating attire only. Girls hair must be tied back, bun recommended.
Class will emphasize standard basic ballet positions and will be structured to assist figure skaters with correctness of posture, balance and head-arm positions. Classes will be taught by Jaclyn Levine.

BALLET CLASS 1: (Ballet Class 1) Open to all skating levels. All ages welcome. Ballet experience not necessary. Classes held in the Ice Den's Ballet Room- Upstairs in Coyotes Rink-south end. Skaters must have ballet slippers. Mandatory ballet or skating attire only. Girls hair must be tied back, bun recommended.
Class will emphasize standard basic ballet positions and will be structured to assist figure skaters with correctness of posture, balance and head/arm positions.Classes will be taught by Jaclyn Levine.

NOVICE-SENIOR FS: (Novice-Senior FS) Skaters who have passed the Novice Freeskate test and above, Novice Pair test,Dance teams passed Novice Free Dance test or higher. Adult skaters who have passed the Adult Gold Freeskate test or higher. Dancers who have passed all of the Silver dances and above.

EXTREME STRETCH 1: (EXTREME STRETCH 1) For all level skaters ages 6-10 yrs. Taught by Julia Blackman and will focus on stretching and flexibility for figure skaters. A mat is mandatory- please! The Class is held in the Ice Den's Ballet Room. We work on core strength. To warm up and work on flexibility along with the strength to be able to hold the positions with control.

EXTREME STRETCH 2: (EXTREME STRETCH 2) For all level skaters ages 11 and up. Taught by Jaclyn Levine and will focus on stretching and flexibility for figure skaters. A mat is mandatory- please! The Class is held in the Ice Den's Party room in the Coyotes Rink. We work on core strength. To warm up and work on flexibility along with the strength to be able to hold the positions with control.

SUMMER SPECIALTY 1: (Summer Specialty 1 ) Monday-Thursday 9:15-9:45 AM
For skaters passed Basic Skills Level 8 through Juvenile Freeskate. Jumps, Spins, Field Moves, Program Components, Footwork classes combined. Ice Den Directors reserve the right to place skaters in appropriate levels regardless of their test record.

BALLET CLASS 3: (Ballet Class 3) By invitation only through Jaclyn Levine. Skaters must be age 13 and over and have passed level 2 ballet. Classes held in our ballet room at the Ice Den Scottsdale. Skaters must have ballet slippers. Mandatory ballet or skating attire only. Girls hair must be tied back, bun recommended.
Class will emphasize standard basic ballet positions and will be structured to assist figure skaters with correctness of posture, balance and head-arm positions. Classes will be taught by Jaclyn Levine.

SUMMER FIGURES/TURNS : (Summer Figures/Turns ) Friday 9:30-10:00 AM
For skaters passed Basic Skills Level 8 through Senior Freeskate
This class is designed to introduce basic turns, edges, balance & posture. Skaters will learn & practice the concepts of long & short axis, skating side & free side, inside & outside edges, & balance points on the blade. This class will advance into steps & turns required in the IJS system, as well as develop clusters from basic to difficult.

EXHIBITIONS: (Exhibitions) Fridays
Available for all levels. Perform your program on the ice by yourself wearing your competition outfit. We suggest you use the freestyle session before to warm-up. Once everyone has performed, any ice time left over will be used as a freestyle session for the exhibition skaters. Novice through Senior levels skaters must do their short program.

SUMMER OFF-ICE JUMPS 1: (SUMMER Off-Ice Jumps 1) Monday 10:00-10:45 AM
For all skaters who have passed Preliminary FS Test and below who are working on single jumps (including axel), and double jumps, and single/double jump combinations. Classes held at the Ice Den Scottsdale- Upstairs in the Apex Rink workout space. Skating or exercise attire only. TRAINING SHOES (sneakers, running shoes) and JUMP ROPE ARE MANDATORY. Classes will focus on jumping techniques, rotation and landing positions. Taught by Ice Den PSA Rated coaches.

SC CONDITIONING 1: ( SC Conditioning Class 1) Strength and conditioning program for figure skaters. Open to all levels of skaters. Classes held at the Ice Den Scottsdale- Upstairs in the Apex Rink workout space. Skating or exercise attire only. Training shoes (sneakers, running shoes) are mandatory. Classes will focus on strength, power and cardiovascular conditioning for skaters. This class will be taught by trainers from Center for Athletic Performance.

SC CONDITIONING 2: (SC Conditioning 2) Strength and conditioning program for figure skaters. Open to all levels of skaters ages 12 and over. Classes held at the Ice Den Scottsdale- Upstairs in the Apex Rink workout space. Skating or exercise attire only. Training shoes (sneakers, running shoes) are mandatory. Classes will focus on strength, power and cardiovascular conditioning for skaters. his class will be taught by trainers from Center for Athletic Performance.

SUMMER STRETCH 1/2: (Summer Extreme Stretch 1/2) Friday 10:00-10:45 AM
Taught by Jaclyn Levine and will focus on stretching and flexibility for figure skaters. A mat is mandatory! Classes held in the Apex Arena Upstairs area. We work on core strength. To warm up and work on flexibility along with the strength to be able to hold the positions with control.

SUMMER STRETCH 2/3: (Summer Extreme Stretch 2 & 3) Friday 11:45 AM-12:30 PM For all skaters who have attended extreme stretch classes in the past. Taught by Jaclyn Levine and will focus on stretching and flexibility for figure skaters at a more advanced level. Stretches and core work will advance. Complexity of stretches will work towards the positions needed for skating (Ex. Biellmann, Sasha, spirals, lay backs etc.) A yoga mat is mandatory! Classes held in the Apex Rink Upstairs area.

PRELIM-SR POWER/EDGE: (Prelim FS and Up Specialty Class) For skaters passed Preliminary FS and Up.

CONDITIONING BARRE 1: (SUMMER Conditioning Barre 1 Class) Tuesday & Thursday 10:00-10:45 AM
Strength and conditioning program for figure skaters. This low-impact, high intensity workout class helps build muscular endurance and flexibility. Barre is for everyone at every level of fitness and fully engages all participants. There will be a combination of bursts of cardio, resistance training with bands, and Pilates ball to enhance every workout. A yoga mat is mandatory- please! This class is taught by Emily Frazier.

SUMMER OFF-ICE JUMPS 2: (SUMMER Off-Ice Jumps 2) Monday 11:45-12:30 PM
For all skaters who have passed the Pre-Juvenile FS Test and above who are learning and mastering all double jumps (including double axel), triple jumps, and double/triple jump combinations. Classes held at the Ice Den Scottsdale- Upstairs in the Apex Rink workout space. Skating or exercise attire only. TRAINING SHOES (sneakers, running shoes) and JUMP ROPE ARE MANDATORY. Classes will focus on jumping techniques, rotation and landing positions. Taught by Ice Den PSA Rated coaches.

SUMMER BALLET 1 & 2 : (SUMMER BALLET 1 & 2 ) A class designed for figure skaters of all levels. The instructor will start to advance ballet 1 skills and work towards a level II syllabus. Classes are held in training space -upstairs in Apex Arena.

Skaters must have ballet slippers. Mandatory ballet or skating attire only. Girls hair must be tied back, bun recommended. Class will emphasize more complex combinations, and coordination, musicality, stretch and strength, extensions and control along with further developing standard basic ballet positions and will be structured to assist figure skaters with correctness of posture, balance and head-arm positions. Classes taught by Jaclyn Levine.

SUMMER BALLET 2 & 3: (SUMMER BALLET 2 & 3) WEDNESDAY 11:45-12:30 PM
Open to all skating levels with previous ballet experience. Classes held at Ice Den Scottsdale- Upstairs in the Apex Rink workout space. Skaters must have ballet slippers. Mandatory ballet or skating attire only. Girl's hair must be tied back, bun recommended. Class will emphasize standard basic ballet positions and will be structured to assist figure skaters with correctness of posture, balance and head/arm positions. There will be more focus on the quality of movement and attention to detail. Combinations will start to become more complex. Musicality, stamina, stretch and strength will be incorporated into the class while developing artistry. Classes taught by Jaclyn Levine.

  • Online - Deadline 5:00 PM the day prior to the desired skate day.
  • Same day Drop-ins are in person only at the administration office. Drop-Ins for sessions before 8:00 AM must be purchased either:
    1. On-line prior to 5:00 PM the night before.
    2. Calling the administration office (480-473-5811) between 5:00 - 8:00 PM & Paying with credit card over the phone.
    3. Paying for the session with a check, Check payable to "Coyote ice"
  • Drop-in skaters will not be permitted on any "sold-out" freestyle sessions regardless of whether or not there are "no shows".
  • Drop-ins are for the desired session ONLY. No refunds or exchanges will be given.
